Black Cat Superstition & Halloween

Thousands of years ago black cats were thought to be shape shifters, demons and workers of the devil. During the middle ages cats were regularly hunted, often times they were then killed and burned. Cat’s were accused of being magical beings - witches if you will, in the worst cases cat’s were even sometimes burned alive.

Back in the day people were very superstitious and often believed that if a cat were to jump over a dead body the corpse would then turn into a vampire (spooky stuff in-dead)

It was also common belief that witches could shape shift into a cat, a method these “witches” used to get closer to their victims. It is here that “witches and black cat’s” began to be thought of in the same breath.

Today their are many “black cat” superstitions such as a cat walking under a ladder. However most people take these thoughts as silly and black cats are loved just as any other cats
